Intensive Learning and Teaching Programme
Information about the programme
The Intensive Learning and Teaching Programme (ILTP) runs three times each year. During 2011/12, the ILTP will run on:
1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th December 2011
15th, 16th, 19th, 20th March 2012
11th, 12th, 13th, 14th June 2012 (Note: these are the new dates - it was originally advertised as starting on 7th June)
Accreditation
The course can lead to an accredited qualification with the Higher Education Academy which will allow participants successfully completing the coursework to you to become an Associate of the Higher Education Academy.
ILTP course participants
This is a course which is aimed at Research Staff and Postgraduate Research Students who want to improve their skills as teachers and supporters of student learning. To take the ILTP, applicants must be doing at least 10 hours of higher education teaching per year. This can include lab demonstration, supervision, leading small groups etc. If in doubt whether you qualify, please contact the Course Director.
Assessment
ILTP participants do not have to complete an assessment. However, if they wish to 'upgrade' their ILTP qualification to Associate Teachers Programme (ATP) level (and thus qualify for HEA Assocate status), they may complete the standard ATP assessment.
The coursework for the ATP qualification at Nottingham requires participants to have 30 hours of contact time with students over a 12 month period. Students who have less than 30 hours of contact time with students have found it difficult to complete the coursework successfully. The contact time with students can be through a variety of forms of teaching: lecturing, supervision, leading seminars or tutorials, demonstrating, marking and assessment or e-learning support activities.
Accredited Prior Learning (APL)
Experiential learning cannot be taken into account for the ILTP. However, if you have attended relevant learning and teaching workshops at any time within three years prior to registration, these can count towards completion of the programme. Examples of relevant workshops run at the University include:
- Foundations of Teaching in HE
- Lecturing for Learning
- Small Group Teaching
- Assessment and Feedback
- How do Students Learn?
